New works by contemporary textile designers - A NUA Touring Show

10 - 28 January 2012

'Repeat' has been conceived and curated by University College academics, Dr Hilary Carlisle, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Design, and the Course Leader for Textiles, Nick Rodgers. An external textile design exhibition specialist comprises the third member of this curatorial group. The exhibition draws on a range of contemporary textile practices and includes drawing, textiles, product, video, installation and design work. The show is accompanied by a series of related events and workshops, including talks by the exhibitors.

'Repeat' acknowledges a fundamental motif within textiles and surface design practice and the subsequent manufacture of repeating patterns has a long history and wide geography. Repeat patterns create visual interest and intrigue, but can also provide a useful parameter for designers and artists who are creating viable works for commercial production. Similarly, repeat structures are studied in many areas of science and mathematics, including crystallography, genetics, physics and mathematics.

Exhibitors include:

  • Les Bicknell
  • Martyn Blundell
  • Dr Hilary Carlisle
  • Jane Eastwood
  • John Macaulay
